This started out as a comment on another blog and got long…
The thing that I don’t get about people’s opinions on war in the mideast is the idea that oil is a bad reason to fight – it’s the basis of our economy. We rely on it to ship food, transport ourselves, and power all our other toys . . . without oil, and inexpensive oil at that, we’re almost as screwed as we would be without fresh water, coal, or tungsten, but everyone acts as though it’s the shallowest thing in the world to fight over . . . What I don’t get is disguising the intention. Why not just say, “OPEC is monopolizing natural resources, and we have to stop them.” Hell, I bet a whitehouse like ours could even spin it . . . like, “These nations control natural resources that belong to the world! Rise up and destroy their capitalist pig monopoly with peace, love, and bombs.”
And on the subject of michael moore: The longer I study film and video, the less and less I like his films. They are actually very tackily edited to give a designed impression. I haven’t watched the new one yet, but Bowling for Columbine had some of the most blatantly manipulative editing I’ve ever seen…and I work for The Media. I think he’s a believer in the american system, and I agree with a lot of what he thinks, but he is NOT a good documentarian . . . and the way he is now trying to backpedle and call his movies “Mockumentaries” or “satirical documentaries” is not going to stick to my wall – they were marketed as documentaries, reviewed as documentaries, and then he and his camp begin to append these other names to what he’s been doing when he begins to be held to sharper scrutiny. No. Micheal: If you caught someone else doing the things you do, you’d put a camera in their face and say, “You used video editing to bend the truth, Mister Moore, and the people that have caught on to it are ceasing to believe the strong parts of your message – you cheapened your entire argument! Thanks, mike.”
Lyric for the day:
I’m not gonna be taken in
They said if I don’t join them I just can’t win
I’ve heard that story many times before
And every time I threw it out the door
That was a thought provoking entry–I enjoyed it.
Yeah, I think what’s bothersome is the corrupt insidiousness of the government’s attempt to disguise their intent.
heh. I’m not sure if it was satire or not. . . so much of our way of life rests on something most of our people insist it’s wrong to fight for…
Very well said. The whole problem I have with the oil argument is that nobody wants oil to be the reason for a war, so we make up crap about some country being a threat to the U .S.
If the war is about oil, be honest and say it is. Don’t dress it up and try to spin out some faux senario that is going to bite everyone in the backside!
I agree that I am dissapointed about the editing and all , but I am glad for the other side of things. After all we are fed lies everyday at least Michael’s trying to go to the extremes to get his view across. Lying sucks all around though. But some things will never change. I’m just an insignificant space invader .
The thing is, I agree with him. But you have to hold your own side to a greater standard of conduct then your enemy. . . you have to be the better man, or you aren’t really fighting for a reason, just an adgenda. . .
I just don’t want to be a tool, and that is what the current leader is doing. Making the public his tool.
i like custom concern and talking shit about a pretty sunset by modest mouse. I LOVE sublime. I mean, the lead singer and i shared the same name. And he named his daughter nico blue! how cool is that?! too bad he died…
i suck at poker. i write my name on all of my cds because that way, when i am missing a cd, i hang out with the friend i think stole it and find it wherever they keep cds. Its worked in the past anyway. I LOVE #5 on 40 oz. It makes me think of kindergarden because um, thats where i was april 22 1992. that and i like to pretend im a bad ass.
i dont like thinking about the 90’s because i always felt like i should have been older then, because i really appreciate the music and culture now.
Thanks for being a loyal reader! 🙂

I already have like, six pair of chuck taylors. I just needed a good pair of tennis shoes.
Yay for converse!
Touche Pussycat!
A very good point.
I’d love to do a documentary on Matt Hale. I wouldn’t need to edit a thing. Just turn the camera on him and let it roll. He makes himself look like the biggest asshole.
I am an idiot when it comes to debt so any help you can give is wonderful! Your email isn’t on here but if you could send me one and explain in the simplest words possible that would be great…
I just don’t know what to tell her….and since I don’t understand it myself I want someone who does to give me good advice…
HAHA! I’m gonna try somethin’ in construction.
that’s the problem with most democrats–good ideas, weak-ass tactics. in theory, we don’t want to kill men, women, and children for oil. in practice, we’d stab the shit outta any bastard who took away our SUV, moocho mocha latte, and our cherry popsicles made with red dye #4. Michael Moore is the kinda democrat who provides fodder for the O’Reillys and Coulters and just plain ol’ gives ’em a bad name.
I agree that he makes good points, but they are few and far between his own biases that he disguises as “facts.” He exploits the vulnerable for his own gain. And he’s just as greedy and self-centered as the politicians that he attacks.
omg youre right, #5 on 40 oz is were only going to die for our own arrogance, it is ok, because my dad and i traded sublime cds so i did at one point in time have 40 oz. i want robbin the hood. I’ve never heard of anyone owning that cd. it cant be bad.
Yep, I agree with the Michael Moore comments there.
I’m with ya on Bowling for Columbine. Very shabbily edited…..and thanks for the tip on the Transporter. Gonna check it out.
well, so far, i think you’ve given the best argument against michel moore being lauded as our lord and satirical saviour. however, there are alot of easily influenced people there, as we all know and those you take moores word as gospel and go on to convert others are not likely to vote bush. i’m not saying that the alternative is any better, just that it can’t be any worse.
isn’t it great to see people turning to these controversial ideas and then becomming slaves to the new controversial ideas? yes, not very well articulated, but that’s not my strong point. in the words of one of my most potent acidic epiphanies, it’s not what you said but what you meant. and you, my Interesting New Friend, know what i mean. tataa!
Indeed. All I know is sometimes, people are such fucking sheep it makes me want to hunt.
But don’t we all bend the truth about something or another…?
Great points…..
